In 2020, total semen collection reached 14.9 million doses. Semen collection in 2021 added up to a total of almost 24 million doses across the country, from January to December. This number consolidates a growth of 61% compared to the previous year.
“In recent years, the Brazilian artificial insemination sector has been registering exorbitant growth and revealing that more and more rural producers are investing in genetic strategies to increase the productivity, efficiency and sustainability of their herds, contributing with important gains for the entire production chain. of milk and meat", comments the Executive of ASBIA, Cristiano Botelho.
To feed this market there are hundreds of bulls being collected at the insemination centers and this week one of them deserves a special mention. The Nellore bull, Kebec da Cacheado, produced 910 quality doses in just one jump, producing a record for the breed. Each bull's ejaculate can yield an amount of 50 to 1000 doses, the average being around 400 doses, but it depends on the desired concentration, in addition to sperm volume and quality.
Kebec do Cacheado is the son of the breeder Majavadi Arroio out of a Capaz do Brumado cow and was sold at auction by Nelore Cacheado in March 2020, its buyers, Carlos Marino and Felipe Novelli, bet on the bull for seeing in the animal a lot of genetic consistency, modernity and functionality .

According to Carlos Marino, the bull has a huge sales volume, so they decided to send the animal to Central Bela Vista in order to collect a few more doses for sale. “It returned to collection this week and, to our surprise, produced 910 quality shots in just one hop. We already knew about his fertility, but we didn't expect him to produce that amount of semen in a single collection. It is a joy for us, but we will certainly be more happy if the Kebec transmits this fertility to its offspring, who will soon be in the breeding season.” Carlos Marino pointed out.
“The Kebec bull still has a lot of firewood to burn, this amount of doses was in just one jump, normally Nellore bulls produce an average of 200 / doses per day and need more than one jump to reach this average amount. It is a bull that is on his second contract and stands out for his great fertility and most importantly, excellent rates of TAI, he can produce and impregnate very well. In his first visit to the center he quickly produced the semen doses and possibly will produce, to fulfill his new contract, just one week.” – pointed out Pedro Araújo, Manager of the Bela Vista Central.

The export of bovine semen from Brazil reached the highest volume in history, in the accumulated period from January to September, points out a survey by the Brazilian Association of Artificial Insemination (Asbia) carried out jointly with the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), linked to to the University of São Paulo (USP).
